What AI actually is
Artificial intelligence is a broad label for computer systems that do tasks we used to think needed human judgement: recognising faces, translating, recommending, writing. Most modern AI is machine learning — instead of being given rules, the system finds patterns in huge numbers of examples. A spam filter, a map app guessing traffic and a chatbot are all AI, but they are very different tools.
